I think that was a much-needed break we got.

Results prior to our three weeks off for the end of the Six Nations had been patchy at best (a home defeat to the Scarlets and an away defeat to Cardiff not ideal) and although we managed to rectify our position a little bit with our 32-0 win over Zebre in Belfast in Round 17, the fact it took us until the 80th minute to put the fourth try past them speaks volumes of how tired that side was after 16 weeks of gruelling rugby.

Throw into the mix key...

All right, time to take a step back.

Two consecutive defeats were not what the doctor ordered and in a flash we have found ourselves relegated from the summit of the PRO12 table to fourth place, from one point ahead of Connacht to languishing eight points behind them with Glasgow coming up hot on our heels having two games in hand. Things suddenly look a lot less rosy than they once did.

So this is probably the perfect time to be hosting Zebre at the Kingspan Stadium. We are desperately in...

Finally our luck ran out.

Against the Dragons and Glasgow we just about squeezed out two wins without looking overly impressive, but last Sunday the Scarlets made us pay for our wastefulness. They exposed our narrow defence by scoring some soft tries and in defence they were resolute. We blew our fair share of chances, make no doubt about that, but credit has to be given to how well they did to hold us out when we did threaten.

As a result we have now fallen behind the Scarlets in the PRO12...

Another week, another frustrating win!

This week it’s a little less frustrating than our victory over the Dragons as at least against Glasgow we were in control for most of the game as opposed to scraping it at the very end like a week previous. However we still weren’t clinical enough in the “red zone” and we let the Warriors away from the Kingspan with a losing bonus point which may (or may not) prove crucial in May. We hope not, but right now it’s so congested at the top of the...

What was it Al Jolson sang? “I’m sittin’ on top of the world!”

Apologies if you had to Google who Al Jolson is, but for the first time since the opening day of the season we sit atop of the pile inviting the rest of the league to come and get us, and it is pretty good feeling even if we got there by the skin of our teeth courtesy of Paddy Jackson’s late late penalty against the Dragons last week, made equally ironic in that we didn’t even think we’d have him available for the...

Kan this week get any more exciting?

First came the news that we would be signing Ryan Kankowski as Nick Williams’ replacement, then came KOTH’s doubts, then came the expected news that Louis Ludik will be staying on with us as a “special project player” and then finally, as if that wasn’t enough, it emerged that the Kankowski siging wasn’t happening all along!

Phew.

And after all that we still have a match tomorrow night against the Newport-Gwent Dragons – our rescheduled game...
