Alright folks, welcome back for another year of pain and agony!

For those who know me, you will understand that I have found myself suddenly very busy since the end of last season! But not to fear, my usual match previews and reports shall continue as the season gets underway.

But, since we are at home for our final two pre-season friendlies, and those friendlies are both on the same day, here are the teams that will take to the pitch, as well as the times you can see them.

As always, all...

The Semi-Final - Leinster Rugby vs. Ulster Rugby

We’ve been in this situation before.

A trip to the RDS Arena for a knockout match? Yeah, that isn’t unfamiliar territory for us since we’ve done it several times before, especially in the past few years. Leinster have definitely been our bogey team when it comes to knockout matches – in past years they’ve denied us a Heineken Cup, a PRO12 title and two further shots at the PRO12 too. It becomes almost infuriating that we can’t be rid of them in knockout scenarios.

A win at the RDS...

Match Preview: Ospreys vs. Ulster Rugby

How ironic that after 21 rounds of rugby, it all comes down to the final day.

Only one point separates ourselves and the Scarlets in fourth and fifth and with both sides facing very difficult away trips on the final weekend, it’s almost impossible to gauge who’s going to take that final spot in the play-offs. Right now you would probably give us the advantage as we are ahead and we also have statistically the easier away game.

I won’t get into the permutations here but if you want to...

Firstly, we must reflect on the fantastic contribution Nick Williams has made to Ulster Rugby.

The replacement for Pedrie Wannenburg, Williams’ signing was one that was met with much scepticism within supporters’ circles given his ill-fated time with Munster and Aironi. However he silenced all those doubters with a barnstorming first season that saw him named PRO12 Player of the Year in 2012/13, which was then rewarded with a new contract with us.

A player whose head-banging ferocity drew...

Alright, we are back on track.

The Connacht match could have been a banana skin if we weren’t careful so to pick up the win and deny them a bonus point even when we weren’t firing on all cylinders is a vital result for us. Combined with the Scarlets’ surprise home defeat to the Cardiff Blues and Leinster squeaking home against Munster, it puts us in a great position to launch an assault on the top four and hopefully snatch a semi-final spot from one them – more than likely the...

Match Preview: Ulster Rugby vs. Connacht Rugby

It’s not very often we face Connacht and they’re above us in the table.

This week they arrive in Belfast not just ahead of us in the table, but 12 points ahead of us in the Guinness PRO12 standings.

Their success or our demise I’ll leave that up to you. Perhaps a bit of both is a more apt conclusion to reach, however it is undoubtedly a strange pleasure to see the Westies doing so well. Buoyed by a strong start to the season during the World Cup, Pat Lam’s men have kicked on from there...
