Ulster Rugby have today released a lengthy injury update, providing detail on how several key players are progressing in their returns from injuries.

In the short term, Paul Marshall (rib) and Craig Gilroy (concussion) will both miss Saturday's trip to Treviso with the scrum half aiming for a return by the end of the month while the Ireland winger will undergo the standard return to play protocols.

Ulster Rugby have announced their Hughes Insurance Academy squad for the 2016/17 season.

There are ten players in the squad that have been kept on from last season: David Busby, Peter Cooper, Ross Kane, Michael Lagan, Rob Lyttle, Andy Magrath, Jack Owens, Nick Timoney, Alex Thompson and Craig Trenier.

They have been joined by eight new inductees: Conall Boomer, Rory Butler, Aaron Hall, Adam McBurney, Zack McCall, Tommy O'Hagan, Marcus Rea and Jonny Stewart.

Ulster sign Peikrishvili on a short term deal

Ulster have announced the short term signing of Georgian international tighthead prop Anton Peikrishvili as injury cover.

The province are currently with just one fit tighthead in Rodney Ah You after a set of bad luck with injuries saw Wiehahn Herbst, Ricky Lutton and Johnny Simpson all ruled out.

Peikrishvili, 28, will join Ulster until the 19th December by which point all three props should be back from their respective lay offs.

Ulster Rugby have today confirmed that influential scrum half Ruan Pienaar will leave the club at the end of the season after seven years with the club.

Both Ulster and Pienaar wished for him to extend his stay at the Kingspan Stadium, but due to the IRFU's succession policy an agreement could not be reached with the union, despite the best efforts of both Les Kiss and Bryn Cunningham.

Ulster have announced that winger Andrew Trimble and hooker Rob Herring will be joint captains of the province for the 2016/17 season.

The two players will share the captaincy throughout the season in the Guinness PRO12 and the European Rugby Champions' Cup.

Ulster’s fixture list for the 2016/17 Guinness PRO12 season has been released with Les Kiss’ side starting their campaign at home to the Newport-Gwent Dragons.

Ulster will welcome the Dragons to the Kingspan Stadium on Friday 2nd September at 7:35pm.

This will be followed by a visit to Treviso (Sat 10th), a home tie against the Scarlets (Fri 16th) and then a trip to Scotstoun to face the Glasgow Warriors (Fri 23rd) to round off a very difficult opening month.
