Eurostar 7.34 to Brussels from London breaks down

Postby fermain » Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:20 am

God job they still got there!
Around 1,000 Eurostar passengers will be given a refund after a power cut to overhead lines caused two trains to break down last night.
The 7.32pm service from London St Pancras to Paris and the 7.34 to Brussels both stopped outside Lille in north-east France at 9pm, leaving passengers stranded for several hours.
Delays of up to 15 minutes are expected on services this morning, although passengers are advised to check-in as normal.
Following the break-down, around 460 passengers from the Brussels service had to be transferred to replacement buses to complete the remaining 60 miles of their journey.
They finally arrived at their destination at 3.30am.

BBC says trains broken down in the tunnel being pushed out!! Between closed airports and tunnels it looks like we might be the only two to make it to the match today! I'm glad I travelled early

Eurostar has cancelled all services on Saturday morning 19 December before 12 noon because of severe weather conditions. People who have booked a journey for Saturday morning are advised not to travel. The rest of the day and into Sunday Eurostar services will be severely disrupted as well. We strongly recommend that travellers whose journey is not essential change their tickets for travel on a later date or have their tickets refunded. Eurostar services should be back to normal on Monday.

Might be a chance or is that too late mike ?

Guys, i would completely write off the Eurostar to be honest. The queue for the (closed) ticket office was a couple of hundred people long waiting for it to open and exchange their tickets for later trains. The later trains are going to already be fully booked so I think you would have zero chance of making it. I came straight home to look at the ferries but it was just too tight to drive to Dover and from Calais for k.o. Temp is minus 8 max in Brussels today, I don't think the match will go ahead today.

Four trains have broken down in the Channel Tunnel due to cold weather, as snow is expected to cause further disruption in parts of Britain.

The temperature difference between the cold air and warm tunnel caused the trains to break down, Eurostar said.

Passengers from two of the services have been moved to different trains; the other trains are to be pushed out.

More snow and freezing temperatures are expected for parts of Scotland and south-east and eastern England.

More than 2,000 people were trapped in the tunnel and some of the trains were without heating and lighting.

Two further trains travelling from Brussels and Paris heading for the tunnel were turned back.

Passengers from one of the trains have been taken by shuttle to Folkestone where they are waiting for a train to take them on to London.

Eurostar spokesman Bram Smets said: "All the passengers are safe."

The tunnel is currently closed and many travellers are stranded at terminals at either end, where they are waiting to make their crossing.

The Ports of Dover and Calais are closed and passengers have been advised not to travel there. Anyone planning to make a journey is advised to contact their travel operator.

Amazed that has not been a previous problem  also baffled as why an electric motor would stop with the cold

If a train did leave at 12 then it would get in at 3pm so just about time but given there have been 7 or 8 trains cancelled this morning (Brussels and Paris), it would be chaos trying to get a seat. Was speaking to aarons who was probably on same train as londonredhand and he is giving up.

I'll be in O'Neills. I'm lucky in that I hadn't even left the house when I found out but I feel for browner as he is probably on his way to St Pancras now. I hope the flights are ok to get back.
