Ulster Ravens v Bedford Blues

14-0 to Ulster after about 10 mins, tries from Seymour and Fitzpatrick assume the conversions are by O'Connor.

Just back from the game 29-3 at full time (same as half time!). Second half Bedford decided to play a bit having been practically non-existant in the 1st half. Decent travelling support - big chap beside us who caught the ball (ex-Bedford forward he told us!) says they were usually much better than what we saw tonight. Still, a win is a win 8)
Ulster - club and country...

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience tonight. A goodly crowd with room to move around. I would estimate around 750, and nice to see so many travelling supporters from Bedford who put up with our antiquated customs like no alcohol in the stands.

Have to say I was disappointed with the turn-out of home support - I'm sure we can do better than that. On the other hand I thought those who did turn out were a joy to be with. Bedford brought a decent amount of support themselves and when they decided to turn up in the second half they turned what looked like a massacre into a decent scrap. We should really have won by about 40 points though.

With Round 1 completed in our Pool, the Table may look like this:

My caution is based on the possibility that the Rules may take tries into account when points are equal before using points difference. I have found nothing to guide me re this - if anyone has, please let me know.

Pi$$ Poor marketing by UR coupled with "we dont realy have a lot of supporters" is due to the low turn out shame on us i say,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thats terrible that less than 1k would turn out although I suppose better than a normal A match, don't understand the mentality of some, we can get decent crowds for preseason matches where the team is made up from the same players, this is an actual competition and it's been 4 weeks since Ulster played at Ravenhill and another 2 before they play again, though more people would have had an interest and there would have been at least 2k at the match, but as YM says "Pi$$ Poor marketing by UR" :(

I don't know about UR but it seems 'pi$h-poor marketing' on the whole competition. As an exile where can I find the results, tables, website, match reviews.....?
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and

When this competition was announced I fully expected that Ulster would attract crowds of 5-6000 for their home games but thanks to poor marketing this expectation has been unfulfilled. On the one hand UR exhorted the fans to turn out to support the team and in the same breath almost, announced that the terrace would be closed, the Aquinas car park would be closed and there would be no parkn' ride facility. They also closed the annex in the Scoop bar where the tables and chairs are and we were told by someone who knows that this was to save a fiver post match cleaning!! This was all very unfortunate as those who did attend were treated to a very entertaining match, especially from an Ulster point of view in the first half when our scrum was dominant and our young inexperienced backs played some superb running rugby. Their pace and ball handling was superb as they were sparked by quick ball from young Marshall at srcrum half and excellent game management from O'Connor at out half. Bedford rarely troubled ulster in the first half but they did manage to step it up a lot in the second half and started to gain superiority in the scrum as the half wore on. They suffered I think from not having much creativity in the backs to enable them to take advantage of their forward play. On at least two occassions they had 3/4 man overlaps but the ball carrier took it into contact and the advantage was lost. This seems to be a common problem throughout the GP and the English game. Too much emphasis is laid on biff, bash, type of rugby and defenses are stifling any creativity. I think it is a reflection of what we are seeing from the English national team ie.14
battering rams and Johnny Wilkinson. Nevertheless, I hope the large travelling support from Bedford enjoyed the trip despite the result.

How much would it have cost to open the terrace?

A few eventsec, a couple of sweepers and some lighting...how much for that......if we take it out of 750 at a tenner a head.
